FUTURE lies in the PAST

Wherever I go I’ll always be a Keralite and that's who I will always be. The influence your hometown and its culture and customs emboss on you would be unmistakable in any crowd. From the time immemorial, we kept a bit of weirdness in the way we live, the beliefs and customs we cultivated and the ideologies we followed and the ideals we loved. This 600kms long shoreline of Arabian Sea have stories to tell dating back up to 3000 B.C. Microlithic artifacts as old as 3000-4000 B.C has been unearthed at sites near Calicut(Kozhikkode), northern Kerala. At that time we have been doing trading with Indus Valley people and the rest of the world. We were the Spice Capital of the world. When the time passed by, this small chunk of land spectated lots of changes. Buddhism came to Kerala around 260 B.C and it was there to stay for a long time. After that till 9-10 th   century A.D, Sangham literature and the great Sangham Poets influenced and inspired the soul and mind of people. At...

The One Percent Chance

The notion of Chance or Luck as most people would like to call it plays a big role in every one's life. What exactly is the importance of chance in our life? Some people plan everything in their life, or so they think. But still, the chances of that plan going haywire is big.  Consider if you love someone and want to tell her that. If you're just flirting then you wouldn't worry about it much. But otherwise, you will give it a thought from every possible angle.  What if she said "No"?  What if she cried?  What if she call the police?  What if she complained?  What if she humiliates you?, lots of possibilities run to your mind. Then suddenly you will realise that there is only one percent chance that she will say "yes" to you. And there is this whole 99 percent chance that she will deny you. Crap!, that's a whole lot of Chance against you.  This is the time of revelation for you that you have such a scientific analyst within you....

The Irony called Nationalism

Our sense of patriotism is weird and some what unpleasant. It’s not about the love for your country, rather about how hard you hate Pakistan. I would say we shouldn’t be patriotic instead we must be matriarchal since we call India, Mother. Politics is muddled with religion, casteism and racism. They have no principle. Patriotism is measured in hatred and not in Love. Nationalists have no sense of nationalism. Here, nation is equated with religion and religion poison everything it touches. In this 21 st century where religion should be a personal thing rather than a collective representation, people still lingers on the values and morals elaborated by the religion for a group of people, when people used to live as a closed unit with minimum contact with other groups. Everything is global, we are living in the age of globalisation. independenceday2016speech.blogspot Recently some lawyer in Karnataka state, hit the court with a sedition case against a film actress, who jus...

Before the Rain

The sky was moody. I can see the grey shade caused by the rain clouds, spreading all around me. It was like, I was waiting for the rain to happen, like a hornbill. The feel was great and thrilling. A cool breeze swept over, making my hairs stand upright as if they are heading for a battle.  A black cat with its kitten was lying on the side of a concrete slab paved in the park. The kitten is playing with his mother. She is entertaining him with the wagging of her tail. The thunder sounded like both Indra and Zeus were in on the jamming session. The sound of thunder made the kitten jump up and started looking around making that sweet meow sound. But his mother doesn’t seem to care. The kitten looked suspicious, like he was expecting an imminent attack, and picked a spot very next to his mother to lie down. Like me, the kitten too was expecting something. The only difference is, I know what is going to come next and he doesn’t. I extended my hand perpendicular to my chest ...

A Trip to Museum

The day looked pleasant enough to take a ride through the Janpath road. No honking and hurry-burry. The road stretched right before me like a gray carpet. The swaying trees on both side of the road felt like the dancing Salabhanjikas, adorning the facade of a great palace.     National Museum indeed is not lesser than any palace. Arts & Culture being its building blocks, cemented together by the history of Indian subcontinent. W hen I reached there the place has already been filled with school children. Their white and white uniform made it difficult to differentiate between them, a sense of unity and uniformity. Kids, they are like water, you couldn't contain them, they fill the entire place. They are here for a learning tour about the history and arts of Asia. Schools should encourage such tours more. It helps to create an awareness among the children about what they need and needn't to be be lieved. Today we are exposed to different versions of history an...

SCIENCE is stranger than fiction

There are a lot of things that seems weird going on in this crazier world, natural and artificial. Science is something which makes humans stand apart from the rest of the natural world. These are some glimpses of our world, I picked ,which I think is cool. Have u guys ever woke up tired and exhausted? May be in the summer, but definitely not always. For most of us sleeping is away to get rid of tiredness. But this 18 yr old kid, called James, wakes up dead tired when he sleeps too much. It may be interpreted as laziness, but actually it's a fatigue inducing condition named Fibromyalgia which causes this tiredness. It's an actual medical condition. Yes, in this condition you will actually get tired after taking a nap. Weird isn't it. Courtesy:Pinterest.com This one is definitely going to blow your mind off. what do we do when we confronted fire, like wildfire? We run, yes that would be our priority. But this little guy, he is an Australian, does just the ...

Mother's Day

Being a mother is a gift. I don't believe any women can be mother. It takes lots of sacrifice, guts and selflessness. Usually we call everyone who gives birth, a mother or a father. Its not that simple. A mother is a symbol, an idea. Any women can give birth but not everyone worthy to be called mother, same with father. We even use phrase, " motherly instincts " in our daily vocabulary.  We have many famous and not so famous mothers like Irom sakhi Devi, mother of "The Iron Lady of Manipur" Irom chanu sharmila, who hasn't saw her daughter for more than 10 years except one or two visits to hospital. Its been years since she caressed her daughter, spoke to her. This mother is fully aware of the depth of the issues her daughter stands for. She wishes good luck and is proud of her daughter. She even promised herself to not to disturb or try to see her daughter, till all of this isn't over.  Now thats some tough and hard core love mixed with pride and resp...
