Youth and Politics

Our political system is crippling and burdened with over aged hypocrites. I honestly believe our politics  need a revamp. Don’t you think present is ruled and governed by the ghosts of past. There is big difference in past and present  social values.  Don’t get me wrong, when i colloquially put it as older people coz you might think i am some kind of Nazi. When i say older, i meant our over-the-hill politicians, you can say they have experience and all, but right now what we need most is not experienced minds but bold minds who can accept the change happening around and those who are willing to break free from the old traditional format. The average age of our Parliament is over 60 years. How many leaders are there in our parliament who are not from a well-off and don’t have a criminal background. Most of our politicians and executives for that matter are sycophants. Being rhetoric and sycophancy are the trademarks of most of our statesmen. This sycophantic behaviour de...

Hate speech

i think super moon had its toll on me. After seeing it i had a gargantuan mood swing, for no particular reason i began to hate the entire human kind (including myself), i think it made me high.  i am full of hatred now, i feel like a super villain who wants to destroy humans. i feel like a werewolf who want to attack and tear off everything that is human. A little while ago i adored being a human with all its complex relationships and multifariousness, both physically and mentally. But now i think its all sleazy, yes thats it, i hate our kind for all its glory and wickedness. If there is a rebirth i wish to reborn as anything that is not human. i have had enough of this bullshit. We are liars, fools, wickedness is our trademark, we don’t love anyone but self. We kill each other and other living creatures. Does it end there? no, we again kill for fun and entertainment. We destroyed the balance of nature. We made extinct many creatures. Do we feel anything for those who were exti...

“Thrissur Pooram” festival of festivals

Guys, you want to see heaven on earth? music at its culmination? elephants, the magnificent beasts at its mighty? the biggest orchestration on earth?  come to “God’s own country”. Today is an auspicious day for us coz today is our prestigious “ Thrissur Pooram ”(Pooram means festival and Thrissur is a district in Kerala), the grandest festival because of its finery and orchestration. i don’t know how many Indians outside Kerala know about this, but its time for everyone to get a taste of this  extravaganza. This is not all, the best part is at the culmination of festival when the fireworks begin, its a view worth watching. Fireworks will last for 3 hours with out a pause. At the end the entire city will be raining debris from fireworks. You must see the “Panthal”, we have a Guinness record for the biggest one ever built. Another highlight is the showcase of umbrellas(called “Kudamattam”, Kuda=umbrella, mattam=change) mounted on elephants. People from  countries like Ger...

“Rape Culture”

We Indians are always been proud of our great culture. In our eyes every one else is inferior. But recently our capital city has become a shining beacon of our new emerging culture, “Rape Culture”, i don’t know whether you can call it even a culture. As New Delhi is our capital any smear on its reputation affects the entire nation. In a rape culture, women are stamped down by the fear of being raped. This is an extremist side of our patriarchal culture. In this type of culture women who got raped become the culprits, society wouldn’t sympathize with victims, rather they would argue that those women asked for it. The only purpose is to make women subordinate to men by the fear of rape. This type of attitude was prevalent in India for years, as it is the side effect of our Patriarchal society. Even though in our culture rape has been considered brutal and inhumane, because of our male dominant system rape was common. Some times we don’t even take rape seriously as rape is considered as...

Mind and Prejudice

I had been thinking about this quite a long time. How come people be prejudicious to others? world is filled with prejudiced views, Could this attitude be changed? sometimes i think it is not easy to have a non-prejudiced position. We always consider ourselves better than others, might n ot there be any specific reason but still we like it that way. No matter how hard we try to consider others as equals we just can't. We always think in a specific direction, it had to be others who do all the bad things and base for this preconception is, we are always right and fair. For example most of the Indian's blood boils on hearing the word "Pakistan" and unfortunately most us think thats how it should be, Pakistan = bad and India = good. We always forget about the common people like us who live there in Pakistan, and nothing to do with terrorism and war, who were trying to make both ends meet. Hate crimes are mainly because of this prejud...

India and Health

A report on infant mortality in the latest issue of “Down to Earth” magazine was a revelation to me in all sense. They have reported the worst in infant mortality rate (IMR) is a district in UP named “Shravasti”. They have reported it is the worst place to be born in entire India, where every 103 infants out of 1000 dies. They claimed that such a degradation is not lonely because of low female education but the lack of infrastructure and its geography plays an equal part. There are many districts in rural UP where, the denial and refusal of doctor’s doing their duty doesn’t affected much, thanks to the mid-wives and health centers. The report outlines the condition of health centers where babies are born, they say some uses high watt incandescent bulbs as incubators. There are many near by districts which were managed to lower IMR considerably without the help of Hospitals and Doctors. Doctors refuse to work in such rural areas where there is no basic infras...

Honouring Pepita

Year was 1970, a young woman from a far away land, set foot on India, inspired by her soldier great grandfather’s diary of 1857. She was then working in the film field and had worked with many renowned directors. That was her first visit to the blessed land of “Bharat”. Then again in 1972 she returned to India, but this time to “Kerala”, the god’s own country. That was the beginning of a hard core relationship between a state and an angel, who fell in love with the culture of Kerala. She is Smt. Pepita Seth, born and brought up in England. In honour of her contributions to the state of Kerala, she was awarded with “Padma Shri”. She never had a proper educational background, as she put it “In my family education was only for boys not for girls”. She devoured books at young age. By 2000, she forever left her home-land for the love of India and Kerala’s art forms, but till 2000 her life was kind of in-between India and England . With her previous experience with cameras, (in 1994...
