Multiculturalism or Diversity

Multiculturalism has once again become the hot topic for debate. Few months before British PM commented that, multiculturalism policy is not going well in UK. Some members of Mr.Cameron's centre-right Conservative party, activists in right-wing movements and some voters believe that Britain has become a safe haven for people with anti-Western political views. He joined hands with Angela Merkel (German Chancellor) in this matter. He commented that there has always been a clash between Muslim community in Briton and European values. Mr. Cameron said it was time to replace Britain's "passive tolerance" with an "active, muscular liberalism". Europeans greatest fear is that it is a threat to national security. They are trying to create an atmosphere of post  26/11 again.

In the case of India, it is different. In our country we don't use the term "multiculturalism", instead we use "diversity". Here most of our states are formed on the basis of language and these languages are different for different cultures. But more importantly our differences are mainly based on  language and geographical features. Majority of the population believes in Hindu philosophy.  We have Muslims who are the second majority, then Christians, Sikhs, Parsis, Jains, Buddhists etc.. The best thing about India is that cultural difference is mainly by language, not by the standard of religion. For example, if you are a Keralite (Kerala), it doesn't matter, in what philosophy you believe; your cultural values are based on the culture of that particular state(Malayalam).

We can take each separate state of our country as an example for multiculturalism. Presently, people from different states goes to each other states in search of jobs, some b'coz their jobs demand it, etc.. Like, in some European countries , tension arises between natives and those who came from other parts of country from time to time. But cultural conflicts are almost negligible compared to the frequency of occurrences of religious conflicts. 

Despite the fact that we are diverse in culture, we are united by the spirit of being  Indians. As Indians we have our own moral and family values. We have a common culture of long fought freedom struggle against British. We stood united then and still we are standing united and we will forever be.
