Why we need Idealists?

"A man's value to the community depends primarily on how far his feelings, thoughts, and actions are directed towards promoting the good of his fellows."                                                                                                                         -           Albert Einstein The need for idealism is at its highest, more...

THE EPIC - where to draw the line?

India is the land where history and myth get intertwined in such a way that you cannot say which is which. One of India's gift to the world of literature is her majestic epical wonder " Mahabharata ", attributed to some one(might be one person or many) called Vyasa or Vyas ( Ved Vyas ) which literally means one who dissected 'Veda' (religious and philosophical writings of Hindu religion). Research on this great epic revealed that many appendage had been done to the original text , before it became whole. Mahabharata's impact on Indian psyche is so profound that people consumed every word of it as such.  Characters were being worshipped as role models, like modern day Bollywood stars. As the generations passed by, line which divides the story and reality started blurring. Stories told and retold, appended stories that were not present at the beginning happened, kind of regional versions. Many dynasties and empires came and gone everyone tried to leave t...

Vote or Not ?

The insolent outcaste YES I DARE TO SAY IT, amidst all that motivating and   influential   "you should exercise your right to vote" election   motto. Yes I know......   it is a taboo to say that 'I don't want to vote' in a country where election is more of a trend. People will look down on you, you will be an outcast   in world's largest democracy. Everyone knows that they should vote, coz it is their duty, it is how common people shows the' governing system', who is in control? Or at least   thats what they want us to think. If you ask any single one of the voters 'why you really voted ?' except that, it is the duty to vote. How many would you think have real answer for that question? How many of the political parties have manifestos and even if parties publish their manifestos, how many of us read the manifestos ? And   how many among the read ask the question of, how the parties going to make the promises happen in real time?  ...

Rulers of the mind of people

August 7, 1941 there isn't any visible signs of disturbance in the nature at the great loss humanity had suffered. Nature refused to shed her seriousness. She looked detached as usual. But the world, India particularly, stood numb. He was the man who greeted the world with his offerings of songs. He was the man who was ashamed of badges of honours, who denounced nationalism for internationalism. A saint, poet, world citizen- was many things to many people. Yet he died restless, his heart was weeping. Humanity had failed him. Brothers waging war on brothers. Destruction, for what? he never understood. His own land were being controlled and prowled. Love and peace were nowhere to be found. He fought hard against it. But inside, he knew he was only partially succeeded in his mission on earth. He was going to die like a soldier in the battlefield, fighting the   battle. But there are laws much more powerful and unchanging, against which we are totally helpless. He knew its time....

Face Change for Reading

Yesterday I happened to came across an article about " how reading has changed all these years" in Gizmodo . They mentioned   an application named " Spritz " which can increase your speed of reading 3 or 4 times it is right now. Now, that would be interesting if you could read 500 pages book in 1 hour, don't you think? That's what the developers of this application offers us, more efficiency in reading. One   or two words about this application -   this app only gives you a word at a time, so that you don't need to waste your time following the scattered words one by one, unlike the orthodox type of reading. This technology is based on the scientific notion that eye-movement is a waste of time and energy which   decreases our speed of reading. I think for professional works it would be more time saving. Courtesy:Gizmodo Now we will come to the real thing, if book is all about just reading, then what about the quality of reading? T...

At Peace....... after Death

This is my entry for the Indispire topic-2   Waking up from the dead and watching how life unfolded without you.. Is your lover remarried? Is your mother over your loss and likewise. Meeting With God   Wake up... son... wake up, its time, a sweet chiming voice echoed in his ear. It   is difficult to understand whether the speaker was male or female. I opened my eyes slowly and showed my irritation by saying, when did you start to talk to me like that? Dad, thinking the smooth calm voice I heard was Dad's. The voice came closer and closer till the person become visible, yup that was dad, alright. But I noticed something strange about dad. What is it? My eyes scanned for a clue. Is it the clean hair cut? Or may be that he is not wearing a sandal, which is so unlikely of father, Nop... that's not it. There is some thing more... regarding his mannerisms, or there is none at all. Is it that he lacks that same ever-prevailing sarcastic look on his face, which proc...

Science and India

This topic had been in my mind for a pretty long time, how we treat science in  our country. Now  at this wonderful occasion of Merriam-Webster's naming of " Science " the word of the year, there will never be more precise timing than this to talk about this topic. Even in this twenty first century our scientific understanding is relatively poor. Most Indians never had a view of science further than academia. We equate science to academia, we never ever thought of science’s presence apart from that, in our daily life. Bharat Ratna (highest and prestigious honour conferred to an Indian citizen) awardee Prof. C.N.Rao  says we Indians lack scientific temper and former Chief Justice of India, Markandeya Katju not so long ago criticised we Indians are fools . You might wonder where is the relation between these two remarks?  When someone criticize, we never dare to do a self check before attacking the critique. And our way of counter argument will usually not dialectic...
